There are many wonderful things about having a pet or two share your life. Firstly you get the amazing companionship that your pet offers you, whether it’s your cat curled up on your lap at the end of the day or the ecstatic greeting from your dog when all you’ve done is a nip to the shops for 5 minutes!
Pets are also great for getting you into a good life routine – even in the most horrible weather you can guarantee that your dogs want a walk – so no more sofas lobbing for you. They are even fantastic for teaching children responsibility and learning to care for others.
However, one thing that many pet owners could do without is the smell. Whether you have a dog that still manages to whiff no matter how many times you bath them or a particularly naughty pet that thinks that the carpet in the corner of your living room is a suitable toilet.
There are some pet smells that are hard to shift and even harder to live with. So what can you do? Try a little of our wonderful Jersey lavender essential oil, that’s what.
You can use lavender essential oil to help get rid of a number of unpleasant pet odours including pets using the carpet as a toilet, dogs in need of deodorant, pongy pet beds and as a general room freshener.
To remove the smell of pet’s going to the toilet on your carpet it is first vitally important to remove the source of the problem and then neutralise the odour. Bacteria start to break down urine very quickly into ammonia which leaves that terrible smell.
So firstly blot up as much of the urine as possible. Then spotless the area with a mixture of water and vinegar (as this will help to neutralise the ammonia). Finally, sprinkle a few drops of lavender essential oil onto the affected area of the carpet. This will not only leave a lovely scent of its own, but its antibacterial action will also help to fight any remaining smells. Also, many pets will actually dislike the scent of lavender and so will be less likely to befoul that spot again.
To remove unpleasant smells from your dog’s coat, and pet beds and to generally freshen the air in your rooms then a simple lavender spritz can have an amazing effect. Simply mix a few drops of our lovely lavender essential oil into a spray bottle of water, and give it a good shake and a spray away! Or, alternatively use our Lavender room spray.
The lavender oil will again not only impart a wonderful scent but its antibacterial action will act against any stink-producing bacteria that may be around. So to like your pets again, simply add a little lavender!
