6 Tips For A Great Night’s Sleep

Almost all of us will have had trouble dropping off to sleep sometimes, and whereas this is certainly not as severe as the debilitating condition of insomnia, it is definitely annoying and can impact how we function and feel the next day. So what can you do to ensure that you get the great night’s sleep that you need to leave you feeling rested, refreshed and just generally fantastic the day after?

Try a little lavender

Lavender essential oil has long been known for its ability to calm and sooth the mind and promote a fantastic night’s sleep. Why not sprinkle a few drops of lavender oil onto a tissue and slip inside your pillow case or use one of our lovely Jersey Lavender Sleep Pillows.

Set a regular bedtime

Most adults need between 6 and 9 hours of sleep a night, so work out what time you need to get up and work backwards from there. Once you have that bedtime set, do your best to stick to it. This will encourage your body to develop healthy natural sleep patterns that will mean that you sleep better.

Clear your mind

Try writing a ‘to do list’ before you go to bed. This will help to organise your thoughts and leave your mind clear for a great night’s sleep.

Turn off the TV

One of the most common causes of delayed sleep is when you are overstimulated before bed. Using electronic devices such as watching TV, using tablets and mobile phones etc can overexcited the mind making it hard to shut down properly for sleep.

Have a bath

A warm relaxing bath can be a great way to set you up for a wonderful night’s sleep. The warm water and relaxed position will encourage a feeling of calm and relaxation. And to give yourself an even better chance why not add a little lavender (either a few drops of lavender essential oil, or a good glug of our Lavender Foam Bath) which is known to encourage sleep.

Make sure the conditions are perfect

It’s no good trying to get to sleep in the wrong environment, so make sure that your bedroom is dark, quiet, tidy and kept at a temperature of between 18˚C and 24˚C. It might also be worth looking at upgrading your bed, as some research suggests that having the right mattress and bedframe can give you up to an hour’s more sleep.

Good night!
