Lavender Detox Bath

Happy New Year from Jersey Lavender!

So it’s New Year’s resolutions time, and let us guess…is yours to start taking more exercise and eating healthily? Especially after the over indulgences of Christmas?! Well then one of the first things to do is to try and rid our bodies of the toxins that have built up over a couple of weeks of Christmas feasting, and lavender can be a great way to help to do that.

Lavender has traditionally been associated with washing (the word lavender comes from the Latin ‘lavare’ which means to wash) and it’s soothing and calming affects along with its antibacterial and antiviral properties make it an excellent detoxifying ingredient. So how can you use lavender to help kick start your New Year’s Detox Regime?

A great place to start is to get into the habit of taking regular Lavender Detox Baths. Your skin is the largest organ in your body and along with providing a barrier between your insides and the outside world; it also has a vital role to play in eliminating toxins from your body. If our liver and kidneys are already overloaded with toxins (which is a state that they often find themselves in at the end of the Christmas period!) then the skin has to step in and release toxins through its surface. This tends to be via sweat, skin rashes and abscesses. The function of a lavender detox bath is to encourage the release of toxins through the skin and then to also absorb the healing and beneficial ingredients present in the detox bath water. Here are some lavender bath products to try.

The recipe for a lavender detox bath is incredibly simple, but it is an amazingly effective formulation. Then lower yourself and enjoy a good soak for at least 20 .minutes, but ideally 40 minutes or over. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water whilst in the bath to help flush the toxins through your system and to keep you hydrated.

The Epsom Salts (a.k.a. magnesium sulfate) helps to replenish the bodies magnesium level, which can help to combat hypertension (high blood pressure) and also the sulfate flushes toxins from the skin. The Bicarbonate of Soda is also very effective at flushing toxins from the skin and has antifungal properties – it will also leave your skin super soft! Finally our lovely lavender essential oil will help to calm and sooth you and the antiviral and antifungal properties will help to thoroughly cleanse the skin as the toxins are released.

Precautions – we do not recommend taking a lavender detox bath if you are pregnant, dehydrated, have heart problems, or have open sores (the salt will burn!). Also if this is your first detox bath then it may be wise to start with half measures of the ingredients and then work your way up.

We hope this helps you to start 2015 on the right foot – Happy New Year from all of us at the Jersey Lavender Farm.
